A demo is a composition of one executable file and a set of datafiles.
The filesize is constrained to a certain value that increased from year to year, Starting around 4 megabyte in the 1990's and being 12 megabyte these days. Demos display visual effects that are calculated in realtime. Realtime means that all you see is calculated between the distinct frames of animation. If it is crafted well enough the calculations to generate a frame of animation are fast enough to happen more than 20 times per second which means the animation appears to be fluid.
All the effects that are presented are programmed by people from kolor, the music is most of the time played with 3rd party tools.
Some older demos use the vbe-videointerface for ms-dos from the late 1990's. Thos demos can not be seen on windows2000 or nt because those
os'es dont allow acces to video hardware in the way it was used back then.
Most of the demos use graphics, sound and meshes that were created using 3rd party tools which were not neccesarily created by members of Kolor.
64k-Intro means a small demo that must not exceed the filesize of 65536 byte. 64k-Intros use both generated and precreated data from 3rd party
programms that were not neccesarily created by members of Kolor.
4k-Intro means a small demo that must not exceed the filesize of 4096 byte.
Some of our 4k-intros provide sound. all of the effects use generated data like sound, textures, meshes or fonts.
A wildcompo-entry means something that can be expressed as a video and displayed to the audience at a party.
Often other people provide entrys that are 'funny' or 'original'. We do not provide humor. All our productions are serious.
A mobile demo is, following the definitions from Assembly, a demo that runs on Hardware weighting less than 300g. Performance of those platforms is widely divergent and ranges from Gameboy Advanced at 16 MHz to machines nearly compatible to PCs with several hunderts of MHz like PocketPC. Another restriction is the limitation of allowed overall memory usage to a certain ammount e.g. 8 MB to achieve comparability between platforms. This definition is subject to change, so sometimes Mobile Demos are handed into other competition as there is not always a dedicated compo.
Design for mostly so called "partyshirts" for demopartys. Maybe more to come. We'll see. All releases of this category are classified as "secondary".
Some times, we did Webdesign for other groups or party, Evoke. Our contribution is graphic design mostly. All releases of this category are classified as "secondary".
Made with an ArtPad, composed or vector-drawn, or even mixed media works, that maybe were handed into a compo too fall in this categroy. All releases of this category are classified as "secondary".
